Ammonia is a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen with the formula NH3.
Some applications:
- Globally, about 88% of ammonia is used as a fertilizer as a salt solution. When applied to soil, it helps to provide increased yields of crops such as corn and wheat.
- Ammonia solutions of 16% to 25% are used in the fermentation industry as a nitrogen source for microorganisms and to adjust pH during fermentation.
- Household ammonia is a solution of NH3 in water (i.e. ammonium hydroxide) used as a cleaning agent for many surfaces. Because ammonia produces a bright light. One of its most common uses is to clean glass, porcelain, and stainless steel. It is also commonly used to clean ovens and soak items to loosen dust. Household ammonia ranges from 5 to 10% ammonium.
Transport:
Industrial NH3 is sold as a solution of ammonia (usually 28% NH3 in water). Or liquid ammonia stored in liquid tanks transported by truck or container.
